Our founder

We were born in 1898, by the magical hands of a Syrian artisan named Rizkallah Jorge Tahan, who first arrived in 1895 to Brazil.

Eager and urging to improve his skills as a craftsman and learn the portuguese language, he employed himself as a cleaner in a company located nearby the present address. Three years later, he was already able to buy the company and founded “Rizkallah Jorge Co.

Our company under Rizkallah’s creative and dynamic direction quickly pioneered innovative manufacturing, offering a wide range of sanitary hydraulic accessories by using non-ferrous cast pieces in lead, copper and brass alloys.

From Rizkallah Jorge and Sons to “Casa da Boia”: our first trademark to include our yet unofficial name.

Tropical diseases and city expansion as determinant factors for our growth

Rizkallah realized the urgent demands, as researched by Dr. Oswaldo Cruz, for São Paulo’s outgrowing population and the emergency needs in sanitary actions to avoid the spread of infectious diseases. By 1900, Yellow Fever was causing devastating problems, so Rizkallah invested on new technologies and traveled abroad to England and Germany bringing updated hydraulic products, molds and skilled laborers to introduce and teach his workers and improve his manufacturing process as a whole.

Soon our company was manufacturing pipes, connections, taps, valves, hydraulic materials of incredible quality and Rizkallah developed the first water tank float valves in Brazil!

By 1909, Rizkallah commissioned a brand new building and store, beautifully decorated with elements still present today, like the stunning eclectic facade and impressive architectural elements.

With his family living above the store, he could work during commercial hours and increase his manufacturing products in the far back area of the property. All in a one built building, very common within immigrants until the late 1930’s .

People all around the city center were referring to our building as “the house selling water tank floats”, meaning “Casa da ia and it became so popular that we officially adopted and changed from “Rizkallah Jorge & Sons to “Casa da Boia: we understood this to be a justified homage to our creative founder and official original productor of water tank floats in Brazil.

More than 120 years
witnessing history

Casa da Boia has been active on the same site since 1898 and sharing our history helps us understand our mission and responsibility in ensuring all this legacy is kept well alive in a forever changing city like São Paulo.

We are committed in preserving everything as original as possible, and fortunately our building is listed by historical heritage.

Our first major restoration was executed in late 1990’s by Rizkallah Jorge’s grandson, Mário Roberto Rizkallah, manager and director up to the present day. Our building’s original colours were recovered, so was the facade and other areas in need.

By 1998, in celebration of our 100 years, we held a commemorative exhibition in the old apartments of the Rizkallah family, located above the store, now used as a museum.

We celebrated 120 years of business in May 2018, as a fresh start to our company: remodeling our store and the original wooden molds used for foundry, resignifying our business and introducing a new way of working with clients.

We hope your experience be more than a simple purchase act.

We are happy to invite you to join us and make part of our history by appreciating every detail in our store! Inspire yourself with our copper tubes design and open your mind to our endless universe of creative possibilities.

Casa da Bóia is an example of how a company can survive for more than a century if innovation, creativity, art and culture are the main ingredients for the business’ recipe. We are delighted to say that the efforts would not be possible if it were not for our committed team of professionals, dedicated in offering you, client, the best product and service.

We want you to enjoy the experience and embrace being a part of our community, so please, feel yourself at home.
